A person without Ukrainian citizenship may get it after marriage with a citizen of Ukraine. Nevertheless, such ground is not included to the quota of immigration; but Ukraine entitles those who are married to Ukrainians for more than 2 years to get the citizenship beyond the quota. Actually, getting permanent residence permit is the final stage of immigration that generally consists of two parts – getting immigration permit and issuance of permanent residence permit.
Grounds for getting permanent residence permit
Under current legislation, family relations or professional qualities of the applicant usually cause grounds for permanent residency in Ukraine. Undoubtedly, the applicant must be allowed to enter Ukraine. And in order to avoid fraud marriages the legislator sets the rule of two-year marriage. Only then one gets the right to submit the documents for immigration permit and permanent residence permit.
The order of issuing permanent residence permit on the ground of marriage
If you are a spouse of Ukrainian citizen for two years or more and want to get Ukrainian citizenship you are to take the following measures. First, submit the documents for an immigration permit. Second, after getting the immigration permit one should prepare and submit the following documents for permanent residence permit:
- Passport or its analogue;
- A copy of the decision on immigration permit;
- bank receipts for payment of the state fee;
- A copy of Ukrainian tax ID (if available);
- Four photos sized 3.5 x 4.5 cm;
- Translation of documents in Ukrainian (if required).
One is to apply for permanent residence permit during 1 year after the immigration permit was issued.
You will have to fill in an application as well. Its example may be found on the Internet or at a local department of the State migration service. One should be very attentively when filling in this application as any mistake is a ground for refusal in permanent residence permit issuance.
The application and all the documents prescribed above must be submitted to the territorial department of the State migration service of Ukraine personally, where they will be considered during 7 days.
The state may refuse to issue a residence permit in case of threat to the safety of Ukraine and its citizens, fraud, incorrect or false information in the documents.
