On July 16, 2021, started the procedure of state language examination, required for the acquisition of Ukrainian citizenship.
As it is known, a foreigner who intends to acquire the citizenship of Ukraine must certify a sufficient level of proficiency in the state language, which corresponds to the average level of the first degree (B1). Requirements for the level of Ukrainian language knowledge are determined by the National Commission on State Language Standards in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language”. It is the Commission that develops the tasks, determines the procedure and organizes the examinations.
Registration for the exam
In order to register for the exam, a foreigner should log in to the platform https://exam.mova.gov.ua/. After applying for the exam, a foreigner can choose a place, date and time for holding the exam. Details of the application will appear in a personal account later. A foreigner must have a passport or other identity document at the exam.
It is important to remember that a foreigner who has registered for an exam but was absent will be able to re-register for the exam in 4 months.
Exam program
The state language exam for the acquisition of Ukrainian citizenship is comprehensive and consists of four parts: “Listening”, “Reading”, “Writing”, “Speaking”. The mentioned parts of the exam are balanced, the result for each will be 25% of the total number of points. In order to pass the Ukrainian language exam and get the appropriate certificate, you need to get a total score of 50% +1 point.
The “Listening” section contains 12 test tasks that help to determine if a person understands the main content and idea of the text. While preparing, person should pay attention to the perception of the Ukrainian language by hearing.
The block “Reading” consists of 31 test tasks, that determine the ability of a foreigner to distinguish general and special information on the basis of read texts.
The “Writing” contains 2 tasks. In the first task a foreigner has to make a short message based on the description of the situation, in the second – to create a detailed text on the specified topic and a list of mandatory items. Texts must be written clearly and logically. The ability to write personal letters, messages, to tell about separate facts and events of the life, to express own thoughts, to describe plans for the future is estimated.
The “Speaking” part consists of 3 tasks:
– description of the situation (event, people, objects, animals, etc.) depicted in the photo;
– statements on the proposed topic;
– dialogue with the examiner on a given topic or answers the questions.
It is important that speech must be active and understandable. During the exam, in addition to the correctness of speech, the content and completeness of the situation is checked.
