Nuances of obtaining a work permit
Obtaining a permit to work for foreigners is not as easy and transparent process as it may seem. It is necessary to prepare before approving documents and submit information to the State Migration Services about vacancy for a certain position 15 days before submitting an application. Then, it is possible to submit an application to obtain a permit, which will be considered within 2 weeks. In case of positive decision, an employer will be asked to transfer 4 minimum wages to an account of the State Employment Services. Within 10 days the State Employment Services will provide a permit.
After being issued a work permit, a non-resident must start the procedure of obtaining a temporary residence permit. If it is needed to extend the validity of a permit, an application for prolongation must be submitted not later than 20 days before the expiration date.
In order to receive an employment permit the following documents must be submitted:
- Copy of documents certifying education of a potential employee;
- Copy of a passport of a foreign citizen;
- Two photos on matte paper;
- Medical certificates;
- Document confirming that the position does not require Ukrainian citizenship and is not associated with national secrets;
- Certificate of previous conviction absence (non-conviction certificate);
- Notary certified translation of these documents into Ukrainian.
Documents may be submitted to the State Employment Service by an employer a personally or by a representative. In this case, a power of attorney must be submitted as well.
