Very often, some legal procedures require data that may be taken only from state archival institutions. That is very useful and actual in cases of getting Ukrainian citizenship, when one needs to prove his/her nationality or territorial origin. As a rule, getting such archival documents is complicated and very bureaucratic.
Grounds for getting archival certificate
Certificates may be got at any archival institutions, either state or private, under the same procedure. A person may apply for the archival certificate containing data only about him-/herself, dead spouses, parents, and close relatives. It is forbidden to publish this information on the Internet or any other sources without a written permission of the State archive service or the archive that issued the certificate.
The order of certificate issuing
To have your request fulfilled you should submit an application with exhaustive information as follows: your name and surname, place of residence, chronological frames and the reason why you apply for this information. You should also mention the data concerning the person you are searching about (name and surname, date of birth, religion).
Along with the request, you will need to demonstrate a passport or other identity document and documents proving your kinship with those whom the request relates.
The archives do not issue copies of birth certificates. Information of this nature is based on the church books and registries. Archive issues a certificate confirming the birth. It is considered to be the official document.
Such certificates are often required during the procedure of obtaining citizenship (not only Ukrainian). Sometimes the information you need is kept in archival institutions of foreign countries. Ukrainian archives thus may keep the data concerning Polish, Romanian citizens, etc.
Very often, when several certificates are needed, one has to apply to several different archival institutions.
